Joe Kuhn

Instructor - Test Prep

Joe started teaching over a decade ago as a university-level English instructor and writing tutor. He brings a thoughtful, empathetic approach to his work with students, encouraging them to cultivate their intellectual virtues and become the best possible versions of themselves they can be.

Joe has worn many different hats throughout his career, but the common threads have always been his passion for helping others learn and his love of the written word. He earned his bachelor’s degree in the University of Notre Dame’s Program of Liberal Studies, after which he worked as a journalist and political advocacy researcher in Washington, DC. He then earned an MFA in Creative Writing from George Mason University, where he received his pedagogical training as a graduate teaching fellow. After moving back to his hometown of Pittsburgh, he worked as a market research strategist for several years before returning to the field of education at Pittsburgh Prep.

Joe lives in Squirrel Hill with his wife, their 2-year-old daughter, and an ornery cat. In his scanty free time, he loves reading and writing–his fiction and creative nonfiction work has been published in various literary journals–as well as working out and waterskiing on the rivers in the summer.
