Test Prep Instructor

Position Overview

The Test Prep Instructor is responsible for supporting all SAT/ACT/AP classes and private tutoring sessions at Pittsburgh Prep. In addition to active teaching and student management, the Instructor is responsible for supporting curriculum development projects.

Wage & Working Hours

  • Part-time position with opportunity to transition to full-time
  • $40/hr, up to 24 hours commitment/week, 6 hours minimum/week required
  • Hybrid Work: Work in Shadyside, North Hills, or remotely. Minimum 3-days in-person at work required.

Responsibilities

  • Be a dynamic, engaging instructor who relentlessly brings about positive outcomes for every student
  • Deeply understand all aspects of Pittsburgh Prep, the organization’s mission, culture, core values, and operations
  • Create, update, and adapt learning materials for students
  • Recognize the strengths and areas of improvement of our students and help them to reach their test prep goals
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver test prep and/or other educational content tailored to student needs
  • Facilitate classes and private tutoring for test prep
  • Develop and share end-of-session progress reports after each session
  • Initiate and facilitate conferences with parents and other instructors regarding students’ progress, as needed
  • Support development and implementation of academic projects at Pittsburgh Prep
  • Attend all relevant staff meetings and promotional events
  • Communicate directly with CEO and program leads regarding strategy

Academic Instructor: Part-Time

Position Overview

The Academic Instructor is responsible for providing quality teaching to students through one-on-one tutoring sessions or group sessions. In addition to active teaching and student management, the Instructor is responsible for supporting curriculum development and other projects. The Instructor may also be asked to support other projects at Pittsburgh that align with the Instructor’s skill set. 

 

Wage & Working Hours

  • Part-time at $40-50/hr, up to 24 hours commitment/week, 6 hours minimum/week required
  • Hybrid Work: Work in Shadyside, North Hills, South Hills, or remotely.

 

Responsibilities

  • Deeply understand all aspects of Pittsburgh Prep, the organization’s mission, culture, core values, and operations
  • Be a dynamic, engaging instructor who relentlessly brings about positive outcomes for every student
  • Work with students 1-on-1 or group in both online and in-person settings in order to support students in their learning
  • Teach different levels and subjects (within the Instructor’s content area)
  • Develop effective lesson plans to support what students are learning in school

  • Measure student understanding of content in real-time using formative assessment measures
  • Measure growth of students’ study skills, motivation, and accountability
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with students and their families regarding student progress

  • For Math tutors: Must be able to tutor up to AP BC Calculus
  • For Bio, Chem & Physics tutors: Must be able to tutor up to all AP levels
  • For English tutors: Must be able to tutor AP Lang and AP Lit
  • For History tutors: Must be able to tutor all relevant AP levels

 

Qualifications and Competencies

    • Bachelor’s degree in related subject field
    • Public school teaching certification in secondary relevant subject field OR have taken the required number of credits in educational theory for private school certification
    • Experience teaching relevant subject matter
    • Ability to teach in person and online
    • Dedication to supporting the whole child’s growth (including study skills, executive functioning, time management)

Science Instructor

Position Overview

The science instructor will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction to students in biology and either chemistry or physics in a one-to-one format. Our teachers are passionate educators who help students to develop in all aspects of their academic lives.

Wage & Working Hours

  • Part-time position, working towards possible full-time opportunity
  • $23/hr, 25 hours/week, Salaried Position, Full Benefits (Medical, dental, vision)
  • Flexible Work: We meet with students at our Shadyside headquarters, North Hills location, and online. When teaching from home, work from home is permitted. Minimum 2-days In-Person at work required.

Responsibilities

  • Work with students 1-on-1 in both online and in-person settings in order to support students in their learning.
  • Teach multiple different levels and subjects in science and math.
  • Develop effective lesson plans and innovate “on the spot” to support what students are learning in school.
  • Coach students in study skills, motivation, and accountability.
  • Measure understanding of students in real time using formative assessment measures.
  • Measure growth of students’ study skills, motivation, and accountability.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with students and their families regarding student progress.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Academics to develop study plans and goals for students.

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or related field
  • Public school teaching certification in secondary biology, chemistry, or physics OR the required number of credits in educational theory for private school certification
  • Experience teaching biology (and preferably also physics and/or chemistry)

Director of Academics

Position Overview

The Director of Academics is responsible for overseeing the Academic Tutoring program of Pittsburgh Prep.  In addition to active teaching, curriculum development, and student management, the Director is responsible for maintaining our license through the Department of Education as well as managing a team of highly qualified academic teachers in an effective system to prepare students for outstanding success in their academic careers in high school and beyond. 

Wage & Working Hours

  • Full-time, Salaried Position, Full Benefits (medical, dental, vision)
  • Salary between $55,0000-$70,000/year, 40 hours/week commitment 
  • Flexible Work: Option to work in Shadyside location, North Hills location, or remotely. Minimum 2-days in-person at work required. 

Responsibilities

  • Annual goal setting with the executive team
    • Create, revise and implement annual organizational goals and milestones with the executive team 2x a year
  • Teaching: 
    • Tutoring, writing progress reports, sending practice materials, remediation, conferences with parents, collaboration with other teachers of the same student
  • Student onboarding + management
    • Create/maintain systems to identify academic areas of student need
    • Provide methods of working with families to design a plan of action
    • Communication with families about progress and ongoing collaboration

  • Manage a team of highly-qualified academic teachers

    • Help interview and onboard new talented teachers

      • (Private tutoring often has to “roll” with what students are learning in class, which requires a dynamic teacher to be prepared in real-time)
    • Use established curricula (AP, etc) and state standards to guide tutors in assisting and assessing students
  • Maintain our private school license with the Department of Education, following all regulations in PA code Title 22, chapters 51 and 61.  
  • Develop and maintain relationships with schools, organizations, and districts for partnerships (alongside Community Relations staff)
  • Develop curriculum for AP Exam prep  (courses, live instruction, online content)
    • Develop a curriculum for your subject area
    • Project management and delegation for other subject areas
    • Staying apprised of changes in the AP curriculum

  • Manage, revise and create process systems
    • Review current processes at Pittsburgh Prep for tutoring/classes

Marketing Coordinator

Position Overview

The Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for leading marketing
campaigns and efforts at Pittsburgh Prep including test prep, academic
tutoring, college counseling, and other special projects.
They will also be responsible for coordinating Marketing Assistants and
building relationships with Pittsburgh Prep staff to manage marketing-related tasks and managing
priorities.

Position Overview

The Administrative Assistant will support the operations team to help them stay organized, complete tasks, and proctor and score exams to allow them to focus on more advanced responsibilities. They will handle general office tasks and administrative duties – such as data entry, facilitating meetings and communications, managing/maintaining calendars, etc.

Wage & Working Hours

  • Part-time, Hourly Position
  • Hourly rate of $18-$20, requirement of 15-20 hours/week
  • Flexible Work: Hybrid work in Shadyside/East Liberty location and remotely. Minimum of 4 work
    days, 2 days in-person required.
  • Required to work Saturdays for exam proctoring

Responsibilities

  • Proctor and score SAT and ACT exams
  • Answer phones, check voicemails and greet families
  • Schedule appointments and maintain calendars resolving conflicts when necessary
