Walter Nogay, M.Ed
Walter is a Physics and Math teacher with ten years of experience in the classroom. He discovered his passion for helping others as a tutor in high school, and he knew he wanted to teach after seeing the joy and awe he sparked in visitors of the University of Notre Dame’s planetarium where he worked as an educator while obtaining his degree. Walter graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics, and he received his Master of Education Degree in Secondary Science Education from The George Washington University. He began his teaching in Fairfax County, Virginia while also working and volunteering at the National Air and Space Museum. He and his wife grew up in the Pittsburgh area, and so they returned to the ‘Burgh to start their own family. Walter previously taught at Central Catholic High School, and he currently teaches at Montour High School.
Walter believes in the importance of each student receiving an individualized, engaging educational experience. He loves to work with students of all backgrounds and abilities, and he knows that every child can be successful with the right approach and an enthusiastic instructor. He has taught a broad range of Physics courses from Conceptual Physics to Honors Physics, AP Physics I, and AP Physics C, with his AP students consistently scoring above the national averages. He is a supportive, patient, and adaptable teacher who can prepare students for a 5 on an AP exam or help struggling students build their confidence and see great growth and success in challenging Physics courses.
Outside of teaching, Walter enjoys spending much of his time coaching his children’s various sports activities, reading science fiction or biographical books, and tending to his garden.
